Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Wednesday sharply criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent speech at the United Nations, in which Zelenskyy alleged that “we have already lost Georgia in Europe. Human rights and the European nature of the state system are only shrinking there”.
In his remarks, Kirtskhalia Kirtskhalia said Zelenskyy “once again dared to speak about Georgia in a negative light regarding human rights, thereby first and foremost insulting the population remaining in his own country”.
“This person [Volodymyr Zelenskyy], a so-called politician, dared to speak about our country in a negative light, and it is very important in what context - human rights. By doing this, he first insults the people of his own country, the population remaining in Ukraine, as we all know the level of forced migration there; the population of a country whose people are forcibly conscripted to the front lines under the world’s daily scrutiny, literally kidnapped from the streets”, Kirtskhalia said.
“When he talks about human rights, he should first look at the European Commission’s report on his own country - in areas such as corruption, media freedom, and human rights. Only after that should he comment on Georgia. Before daring - as his senior officials have dared - to insult our country and openly call for involvement in war, this puppet should first wash his mouth and then speak about our country”, he concluded.
