David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Saturday said the domestic radical opposition “lacks real public support and therefore avoids direct engagement with citizens” ahead of the upcoming local elections scheduled for October 4.
In his remarks, Matikashvili noted that the opposition’s primary focus appeared to be on foreign trips, which he claimed were aimed at receiving instructions from external actors rather than connecting with the domestic electorate.
“The radical opposition has no real supporters in our country, which is why they are not engaging in any pre-election political processes with the public”, the Parliament official said.
“They go where they think they have supporters - these are practically the ones giving them instructions. This is an agent-driven radical opposition. Therefore, it is not surprising that an agent primarily maintains relations with those who give them orders”, he concluded.
