Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Friday said that accredited diplomats should not encourage the development of extremism in the country.
In his remarks, Volski stressed that extremism in Georgia was being fueled by external support.
“Accredited diplomats should not encourage the development of extremism in Georgia. We are told that nothing of the sort is happening, but the facts suggest otherwise. The Vienna Convention is being violated. Everyone should think about developing bilateral relations. We see that certain forces are managing this process. Extremism in Georgia is sustained by foreign backing, and unfortunately, there are clear examples of this”, the Parliament official said.
He further emphasised that Georgia’s main task was to ensure peace and stability, though some actors, driven by “cold-blooded interests”, seek to drag the country into global confrontations.
“This is part of a global strategy, which is why we hope the new US administration will have a positive influence on the process. We must continue acting as we are now”, he concluded.
