Lasha Darsalia, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Friday addressed the OSCE Permanent Council, marking the 17th anniversary of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.
Speaking at the session, Darsalia underscored that Georgia’s democratically elected Government was taking all necessary steps to ensure the unwavering protection of the principles of rule of law, transparency, and accountability.
“The Georgian Government’s approach and commitment to firmly uphold fundamental human rights, democracy, and the rule of law remain unchanged, guaranteeing these values for all citizens of Georgia”, the Georgian official said.
Responding to a joint statement by 36 OSCE participating states that expressed concerns about the human rights situation in Georgia, the Deputy Minister stressed that Georgia continues to fully honour its OSCE commitments in the human dimension since joining the organisation, particularly those outlined in the Helsinki Final Act.
“Any actions that contravene national interests and the country’s sovereignty are addressed in accordance with national legislation”, the Deputy FM concluded.
