Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday welcomed the recent US administration decision to classify the movement Antifa as a domestic terrorist organisation.
In his remarks, Machavariani noted that in Georgia there were also groups that “share a similar ideology, displaying exactly the same fascist behaviours and operating using fascist methods”.
“Unfortunately, we also have groups in Georgia that share a similar ideology, displaying exactly the same fascist behaviors and operating using fascist methods. This is very concerning. Therefore, Mr. Trump’s decision is certainly commendable, as it will make many reflect on the real dangers posed by the spread of pseudo-liberal fascist ideology”, Machavariani said.
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signaled new action against left-wing groups following the assassination of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk, targeting the anti-fascist antifa movement as a “terrorist organisation”.
