According to a filing with the US Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), Georgia’s opposition party, the United National Movement (UNM), has signed a contract with the American lobbying firm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP worth $360,000.
The agreement, dated July 7, 2025, outlines that the firm will provide support for UNM’s diplomatic activities in the United States, assist in strengthening relations with American counterparts, and help promote free and fair elections in Georgia.
The filing notes that Georgia’s previous elections were marked by irregularities and a lack of transparency, which prompted the firm to commit to developing a strategy aimed at advancing democracy and transparency.
“We will provide consultation and assistance in support of the United National Movement’s diplomatic activities in the United States, including the development of relations between the party and the United States. In addition, we will support your efforts to ensure free and fair elections in the Republic of Georgia”, the document said.
Financial details in the filing show that on July 3, 2025, UNM transferred a $360,000 retainer fee to Nelson Mullins.
