Vladimir Bozhadze, the Chair of the parliamentary political group European Socialists, on Tuesday expressed deep concern over what he described as the support from some foreign diplomats, including ambassadors from European Union member states, for individuals openly calling for unrest, overthrow, and destabilisation in the country.
In his remarks, Bozhadze noted that these actions aim to raise tensions ahead of the upcoming local elections, but the state would not allow chaos.
“This is all about somehow increasing the temperature in society before October 4, intensifying confrontation, and deepening polarization. If anyone wants to protest, that is naturally their constitutional right, but the state cannot and will not allow unrest or destabilization. Should anyone step beyond the boundaries of the Constitution and the law, the state will respond accordingly”, he said.
With just three weeks remaining until local self-government elections, the opposition continues to speak of the government’s “peaceful overthrow” and attempts to interfere with the elections and destabilise the country.
