Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said that the presence of violent groups was damaging the country’s image.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that the hate campaigns initiated by these groups ahead of the local elections scheduled for October 4 were far removed from democratic and European values.
“It is a great tragedy that such violent groups exist in our country, and this is no coincidence. Millions of dollars have been spent over the years to form these groups and individuals, with the money coming from outside. This is something that was deliberately imposed on us”, the official said.
He stressed that violence was not only physical but also verbal.
“Violence is extremely serious and harmful. Violence is not only physical - when you go out, insult people, use offensive language, and swear - it is very difficult to watch. This has nothing to do with democracy or European values”, Kaladze concluded.
