Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Saturday suggested that the smuggling of explosive materials into the country under the instructions of Ukrainian special services might be connected to Georgia’s upcoming local self-government elections scheduled for October 4, emphasising that “nothing can be ruled out”
In his remarks, Kaladze alleged that some high-ranking Ukrainian officials had a history of involvement in actions that harmed Georgia and its citizens.
“Nothing should be excluded, considering who holds senior posts in Ukraine. Are they not the same people who for years here in Georgia were making people’s lives unbearable, and whenever there were human rights violations, they were directly involved? Are these not the same individuals now holding high office there?” Kaladze said.
He praised the Georgian State Security Service for conducting what he described as an important preventive operation and urged the public to wait for the investigation’s conclusions.
“A lot will be clarified regarding this incident; the investigation is ongoing. Clearly, this is all very serious, but I want to express gratitude to the employees of the security service. A very important operation was conducted, and preventive measures are crucial. Let’s wait”, he concluded.
