Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday told journalists today that what he described as a “hostile Act” against the Georgian people and the state has failed, in reference to the US MEGOBARI Act. He emphasised that his Government remains fully open to strengthening ties with the United States.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze emphasised Georgia’s readiness to restore its strategic partnership with the United States, which he noted was cancelled by the Biden administration prior to President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
“A statement was made that this hostile Act against the Georgian people and Georgia has failed. As for the Georgian-American relations, we are completely open to these relations”, Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister underscored that Georgia was in a “waiting mode”, fully open to dialogue but awaiting clarity on the United States position under the Trump administration.
“We declare our desire to renew the strategic partnership, the partnership that was cancelled by Biden and his administration shortly before Trump’s inauguration. This is our wish; the rest depends on the decisions of the Trump administration. We are in a waiting mode, fully open to these relations, and we will await the US side’s position. Discussions will be held based on whatever the US side’s position is. We are absolutely ready to renew the strategic partnership with the US”, he concluded.
Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday said the Georgian Government was ready to restart relations with the United States “on a new page”.
