Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Friday responded to an article published by the influential German outlet Der Spiegel, which focused on the activities of Peter Fischer, Germany’s Ambassador to Georgia.
In his remarks, Gorduladze stressed that the Ambassador had repeatedly interfered in Georgia’s domestic affairs.
“Interference is, for example, when an ambassador attends a court hearing in a language he does not even understand; interference is when he meets with individuals known for fascist and Nazi statements; interference - and at the same time a breach of etiquette - is when the German Embassy rents private property where it is located from a family member of one of the so-called opposition parties”, he said.
Der Spiegel devoted its coverage to the German Ambassador’s role in Georgia, highlighting critical remarks from Georgian government representatives. These officials accused the Ambassador of overstepping diplomatic boundaries and interfering in the country’s internal matters.
