Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday said the Georgian Government was ready to restart relations with the United States “on a new page”.
His remarks came in response to a question about the US legislative initiative known as the MEGOBARI Act.
Kaladze criticised the bill, saying it had “nothing friendly” in it and was instead “hostile, filled with lies, slander, and fabricated nonsense”.
He further alleged that one of the authors of the bill, “a person better known for activities under the FARA law”, had received $80 000 “for the kind of dirt he was willing to engage in”.
“It is, of course, very good and welcome that this bill was not adopted. Despite the fact that certain people, enemies within the country, would like to see Georgia damaged, our desire is to restore relations with the United States on a new footing, with friendship and partnership being mutual and based on fair relations”, he concluded.
