Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, on Monday said the domestic radical opposition was “very frightened”, as they will no longer have space to spread disinformation and false narratives following the Government’s decision to invite an OSCE/ODIHR observation mission for the upcoming local elections scheduled for October 4.
In his remarks, Ionatamishvili noted that the opposition “clearly understands that there is no longer room for speculation”.
“The opposition has built its agenda on the propaganda of lies. Therefore, it is no coincidence that the invitation of OSCE/ODIHR has caused panic and hysteria within the radical opposition”, the Parliament official said.
“They are very frightened because they understand that the October 4 elections will be the final elections for the radical opposition and their speculations. There will be no room left for disinformation or the circulation of false information”, Ionatamishvili concluded.
The Georgian Government has officially invited the OSCE/ODIHR mission to observe the local self-government elections, and a corresponding letter has already been sent to the organisation.
