Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said the Georgian Government was not expecting anything specific from the upcoming Helsinki Commission hearing scheduled for Wednesday, where the opposition figure and former President Salome Zourabichvili has been invited as a witness.
In his remarks, Kaladze emphasised that Georgia was ready to turn a new page in its relations with the United States.
“We are not expecting anything. Our position has been voiced many times. Most recently, the President of Georgia addressed the US President with an open letter, once again expressing our readiness to start relations from a new page”, Kaladze said.
He stressed that the Georgian Government considers the stance of the previous US administration to have been unacceptable.
“The approach we saw under the previous administration was categorically unacceptable - it was based on lies and falsehoods. We heard many threats, filled with slanderous information. However, today the United States has a new President and a new administration, and the Georgian Government is ready to take specific steps, along with their side, to start relations anew”, he concluded.
