Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Sunday dismissed the opposition’s rhetoric about a “peaceful overthrow” of the Government as empty promises aimed at rallying their supporters.
In his remarks, Kaladze warned that any actions violating the law would lead to severe legal consequences.
“These statements are made for their supporters, to somehow encourage them. They say foolish things. I'll put it very simply: let them dare to act against the law - they will receive an appropriate response and will be punished most severely, of course, within the framework of the law”, Kaladze said.
He refrained from commenting on internal conflicts amongst opposition parties, saying, “the opposition is unclear even among themselves. I absolutely don’t want to talk about their confrontations”.
Kaladze emphasised his focus on the ongoing election campaign, engaging with the public and outlining plans for Tbilisi’s development.
“I am in election campaign mode, meeting with the public, talking about the city’s future, future projects, and how important it is to maintain peace for the sake of this country’s tomorrow”, Kaladze concluded.
