Mamuka Mdinaradze, the newly appointed Head of Georgia’s State Security Service, on Wednesday identified Russian occupation of Georgian territories and its consequences, along with foreign interference and the threat of provocation, as the country's most pressing concerns.
Speaking to the media, Mdinaradze highlighted these issues as the primary security challenges facing Georgia today.
“Occupation and its consequences, as well as external interference and the resulting threats of provocations inside the country, these are the two main directions of the challenges Georgia faces today”, the official said.
Mdinaradze emphasised that tackling these issues is the responsibility of the state and specifically the Service he now leads.
The Parliament of Georgia on Wednesday approved Mamuka Mdinaradze as the new Head of the State Security Service. The vote took place during a plenary session of Parliament, with 85 members supporting his candidacy and none voting against.
