Mamuka Mdinaradze, the newly appointed Head of the Georgian State Security Service, on Wednesday declared that combating corruption would be a top priority for his agency.
Speaking to journalists, Mdinaradze emphasised that corruption had no party affiliation, and no one should expect leniency based on their past position or political ties.
“I want you to know one thing: corruption has no party affiliation. This means that no matter which party, ours or another, a person represented in the past, fighting corruption is and will be a priority, a special priority”, the official said.
He noted that Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze had also made similar statements, reinforcing the Government's commitment to this goal.
“No one can receive indulgence based on any past position or party affiliation”, he concluded.
The Parliament of Georgia on Wednesday approved Mamuka Mdinaradze as the new Head of the State Security Service. The vote took place during a plenary session of Parliament, with 85 members supporting his candidacy and none voting against.
