Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said that restoring strategic relations with the United States and translating them into tangible results was “of vital importance” for Georgia.
Kadagishvili responded to President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s letter addressed to US President Donald Trump. In an open letter, Kavelashvili called for a reboot in relations and stressed that the Trump administration has not paid sufficient attention to Georgia.
In his interview with Imedi TV, the official highlighted that the letter further reviewed the harmful policies pursued under the previous US administration.
“It points out that after Donald Trump was elected, when America was to have a new president, the previous administration canceled the strategic cooperation document with Georgia. This left behind a negative legacy, and reversing it naturally required some time. Perhaps that time is now, and the president’s letter can be seen as a signal of this”, the Parliament official said.
