David Matikashvili, the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Tuesday claimed that the strategy to radicalise developments in Georgia and mobilise local radicals and so-called NGOs was orchestrated from abroad and was bound to fail.
Matikashvili’s comments came in response to a reported action plan prepared by the Director of Programs at the International Republican Institute (IRI) for the Georgian opposition, which outlines steps for political unrest.
In his remarks, Matikashvili stressed that it was impossible to deceive the Georgian people.
“Once again, we are witnessing external orchestration of processes aimed at radicalizing events in Georgia and gathering local radicals and NGOs. The plan we are talking about comes directly from the head of IRI and it has been openly declared that there is an attempt to put this plan into action. How many times must it be said and understood by both those giving orders and their local radicals that this plan is doomed to failure?! The Georgian people cannot be deceived. Our society cannot be forced to abandon our national interests”, the Parliament official said.
He also warned that if any negative decision is made within the European Union, “it will be entirely the responsibility and fault of sovereignty-lost Euro-bureaucrats”.
