Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Tuesday warned against causing disorder or breaking the law, stressing that “whoever wishes to protest must do so within the framework of the law and the Constitution”.
Gorduladze’s comments came in response to a reported action plan prepared by the Director of Programs at the International Republican Institute (IRI) for the Georgian opposition, which outlines steps for political unrest.
In his remarks, Gorduladze noted that individuals who call themselves the opposition do not truly represent any political alternative.
“Their so-called political activities are merely the fulfillment of tasks assigned from abroad. We see the same case, for example, with one of the IRI leaders. Following the plan that has been prepared for every country where the so-called ‘deep state’ tries to install its controlled figures into power, they all act with the same narrative”, the Parliament official said.
Gorduladze reaffirmed the ruling Georgian Dream party’s stance on key legislation, including laws on family values and transparency.
“We will not back down from the family values law, nor will we allow kindergartens and schools to become platforms for LGBT campaigns. At the same time, we will not abandon the transparency law”, he concluded.
