Giorgi Kakhiani, the Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday expressed confidence that relations with the European Union and the United States would improve significantly following the upcoming local elections scheduled for October 4.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kakhiani noted that external actors were already acknowledging that the return of the opposition United National Movement party to power was no longer a realistic scenario.
“I truly believe that this period represents the final attempt by external actors to somehow facilitate the return of certain factions of the United National Movement to government. This attempt will be the last and also a weak one. I am convinced that even from outside, they see that such a scenario has no chance”, the Parliament official said.
He further emphasised that the election outcome would once again demonstrate to international partners and Western society where the support of the Georgian people lies.
“After the elections, external actors will clearly see who enjoys the trust of society. I am confident that, following the elections, the process of warming relations with both the European Union and the United States will develop very dynamically”, he concluded.
