At a ceremony dedicated to Constitution Day held at the Presidential Palace, Georgian President Mikheil Kavlelashvili on Sunday stressed the importance of safeguarding the country’s national values and interests, warning that failing to do so could lead to the loss of everything.
In his speech, President Kavlelashvili described the Constitution as a symbol of unity and love for the country.
“For our people, the nation’s supreme legal document represents unity, mutual trust, and love for one another and for our homeland. It reflects historical experience, cultural values, belief in a better future, and the desire to build a strong state. The preamble of our Constitution deserves special attention, as it declares from the outset, before God and the country, the values and goals of our nation, around which every Georgian is united”, the President said.
The President underscored the ongoing internal and external challenges facing Georgia, particularly in recent times.
“Today, 30 years later, on the backdrop of heightened internal and external challenges, especially in recent times, we must clearly understand each concept and each value enshrined in Georgia’s Constitution! The desire of our people to live in a democratic and lawful state, where human rights and freedoms are ensured, as well as our goal to strengthen state independence, is being opposed by certain forces both within and outside the country”, he noted.
Kavelashvili further reaffirmed the Constitution’s role as the bedrock of Georgia’s sovereignty and national identity.
“If we do not fully protect our country’s national values and interests, we will lose everything, because the cornerstone of modern Georgia is precisely the principles reflected in our Constitution”, he concluded.
