Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said the country’s aspiration to join the European Union must not come with conditions that undermine the country’s core principles, peace, or prosperity.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze criticised what he described as “a false dilemma” posed by some in the accession process.
“When, in exchange for EU membership, we are indirectly told to give up our own values, peace, or well-being, this is a wrong dilemma”, the PM said.
The Prime Minister stressed that Georgia’s path to EU membership should be built on safeguarding stability, promoting development, and preserving traditional values.
“We want to join the European Union while maintaining peace, fostering development, and protecting our traditional values. Under no circumstances will we deviate from these principles”, he concluded.
