Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday expressed hope that the ongoing negotiations over the war in Ukraine would lead to a peaceful resolution, emphasising the urgent need to end the human suffering caused by the conflict.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted it was essential first and foremost to put an end to the loss of human lives caused by the ongoing war, which he described as a tragic and devastating development.
“Ukraine is our friend. Historically, the Ukrainian people have been our friends, and so many lives are being lost - countless people - which is simply a tragedy, and this tragedy must stop. I hope that these negotiations will ultimately lead to peace in Ukraine, and consequently in our entire region”, the PM said.
The Prime Minister stressed that Georgia has consistently stood on the side of peace, despite pressure from both domestic and foreign opponents.
“Over the years, we have always taken the side of peace, while our internal and external opponents were openly or sometimes indirectly promoting war, even calling on us behind the scenes to start a war. We have always defended peace, and in the end it has been proven that our position was absolutely the only viable one”, he concluded.
