Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of the ruling party, on Tuesday said that any individual seeking to bring destabilisation into the country would be identified and punished
to the fullest extent of the law.
Machavariani’s response came after the domestic media outlet Prime Time on Monday published exclusive information alleging that the United Kingdom was preparing Georgian opposition activists for the upcoming local self-government elections scheduled for October 4. According to the outlet, the training sessions are taking place in the Baltic states, with Lithuania serving as a key host country.
“We saw this during the November rallies, where thousands of trained individuals participated - some representing the Franklin Club [NGO], others from the youth wing of the United National Movement, as well as activists backed by wealthy NGOs. We are now witnessing the same scenario unfolding in Lithuania. However, I want to warn everyone: anyone who seeks to bring destabilisation into our country will undoubtedly be identified and punished with the maximum severity of the law”, the official said.
