Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Sunday declared that the slogan “Pursuing Peace”, championed by the leaders of the United States and Russia, underscored the critical challenge of establishing global stability.
In a social media message, Mdinaradze noted that Georgia faced a deliberate “dilemma of war and peace” orchestrated by “informal, shadowy forces” and their controlled bureaucrats, a claim dismissed by the radical opposition, certain media outlets, and NGOs as a “false dilemma”.
“Pursuing Peace - this was the main slogan presented by the leaders of two nuclear powers, the United States and Russia, who declared the establishment of peace as their primary challenge. Long before, from the very day the war in Ukraine began, we boldly told Georgian society that our Government and country had been placed in a dilemma of war and peace by informal, shadowy forces, through their controlled bureaucrats. The radical opposition, so-called media, and NGO sector, in their silent compliance, tried to portray this as a false dilemma to the Georgian public”, Mdinaradze said.
The official pointed to a recent meeting between the US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin as evidence clarifying key questions surrounding the conflict.
“The meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin answered all questions: Was this war a proxy war? Yes, it was a confrontation between the West and Russia conducted through a third country. This fact was confirmed by Donald Trump himself. Was Georgia considered for this war? Yes, not only considered but included in the plan as a second proxy state, and if not for our resolve, Georgia would have been left in ruins today”, he noted.
Addressing whether the war could have been avoided, Mdinaradze noted agreement at the leadership level of both the US and Russia that the conflict might not have occurred under different political circumstances, particularly with Trump in office.
“Could this war have been avoided? Yes, both the Americans and Russians, at the leadership level, agree that this war would not have happened if Trump (or the corresponding political will) had been in office. Was the dilemma of war and peace real? Of course, this was the main dilemma our country faced, and with the support of the Georgian people, we made the unequivocal decision to save our country and the lives of tens of thousands of our citizens. We paid a heavy political price for this”, he continued.
Mdinaradze called for accountability from those he accused of pushing Georgia toward war, including those who dismissed the war-and-peace dilemma, smuggled the former President Mikheil Saakashvili into Georgia on the eve of elections to orchestrate a coup, and organised violent protests during the conflict.
“Therefore, every agent who was dragging Georgia into war, who claimed there was no dilemma of war and peace, who smuggled Saakashvili into Georgia on the eve of elections to stage a coup, who planned revolutionary schemes and organised violent protests during the war - they must answer to the Georgian people!”, he noted.
“Every member of society who still supports them should now reflect on how it is that they continue to back people whose victory might have meant they wouldn’t even be alive today?!” Mdinaradze concluded.
