Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of the ruling party, on Friday defended the domestic transparency law as a critical measure for ensuring Georgia’s security, responding to Brussels’ stance on laws related to family values and the protection of minors.
In his remarks, Machavariani emphasised the law’s role in countering destabilising influences.
“We know how much dirty money was circulating in the hands of so-called wealthy NGOs to somehow cause destabilisation in the country. As for the anti-LGBT propaganda law, of course, this is also a red line, as it is the demand of the absolute majority of our society, because there are serious threats in highly developed Western countries”, Machavariani said.
