David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Thursday said that it was time for the European Union to define its approaches toward its partner countries.
In his remarks, Matikashvili accused Eurocrats of pressuring the Georgian people to abolish legal frameworks that, he claims, protect the country's sovereignty, families, and minors.
“There is an attempt by Eurobureaucracy to pressure the Georgian people to change their minds and make an electoral decision they want, not the Georgian people”, the official said.
“The legislative frameworks that, on one hand, guarantee our country’s sovereignty and, on the other, protect families and minors, are being targeted for abolition in exchange for continuing the EU integration process”, he continued.
Matikashvili highlighted this approach as “absolutely unacceptable and baseless”, adding that it “does not, of course, meet the demands of our society or country”.
“It is time for the EU to define the approaches it holds toward its partner countries”, he concluded.
