Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday congratulated neighbouring and friendly states, Azerbaijan and Armenia, on reaching a peace agreement, calling it a highly significant development for the region.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that the agreement would contribute to strengthening peace and economic prosperity in the South Caucasus and the wider Transcaucasian region.
“This is of fundamental importance. Naturally, we welcome the signing of this agreement. We have done everything possible, within our available resources, to facilitate such an agreement. Of course, we must thank President Trump - it was under his leadership that the signing of this treaty was made possible”, the PM said.
“Ultimately, it is crucial for us that our independence is strengthened. Our neighbouring states have the same approach: maximum freedom, maximum independence. This will contribute to strengthening both peace and prosperity in our region”, he noted.
Kobakhidze further added that Georgia continued to hold a central position in the region.
“Over the past 30 years, despite a very difficult conflict between our two neighboring countries, we have made every effort to strengthen peace to the maximum extent possible. This has been our role, and it is greatly appreciated by our friends and neighbors, both Azerbaijan and Armenia. In the future, we will, of course, do everything possible together with our neighboring states to consolidate peace and enhance prosperity across the region. This is our mission in a region where Georgia plays a very important role”, he concluded.
