Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Monday said the ruling Georgian Dream party had never justified Russia’s actions and that Georgia had defeated Russia’s moves on every international front in all disputed matters.
17 years have passed since the Battle of Shindisi. On August 11, 2008, 17 Georgian soldiers died in an unequal battle against the Russians during the 2008 August war.
“Each of us has our share of responsibility, and we must always remember the heroism of these boys. We must all approach our homeland's interests - our national interests - with the utmost responsibility. This is essential. In that, unfortunately, failed process, they showed us an example of immortality, proving that Georgia is immortal, and that is what this heroism meant”, the President said.
“We have challenged and defeated Russia's actions on every disputed issue in every international arena. We have always emphasised that Russia is an occupier, that it committed crimes, and that it carried out genocide against Georgia”, he concluded.
