Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday said that the extreme radicalism being cultivated in Georgia - and which has already harmed many - was now starting to consume itself.
Kadagishvili’s remarks followed an altercation that took place on Rustaveli Avenue between participants of a rally in support of Mzia Amaghlobeli and members of the opposition party Lelo - For Strong Georgia.
“We have always said that the extreme radicalism being instilled and entrenched in Georgia, which has claimed many victims, is now starting to devour itself. This was evident yesterday when one faction of the opposition insulted another opposition representative. This clearly shows that the opposition lacks any kind of positive agenda”, Kadagishvili said.
He further emphasised that the opposition wanted to create some sort of coalition Government, presenting it as a panacea for everything.
“All of this has been a bluff from the beginning. With foreign backing, they are trying to create the illusion of a so-called coalition government, which they present as a cure-all solution. But how can a coalition government be a universal remedy? They invent a new political term, try to promote it for a while, and convince people it’s a panacea. But it’s not. The real essence of a Western-backed coalition government was clearly visible again yesterday on Rustaveli Avenue”, he concluded.
