The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Georgia is examining the circumstances surrounding donations declared by Mamuka Khazaradze, the leader of the opposition Lelo party. This investigation aims to create a complete picture of potential political corruption risks.
In an official statement, the Bureau announced it was also monitoring Khazaradze's asset declaration to verify the accuracy of the information presented and ensure it complies with Georgian law.
The Bureau stated that this review was being conducted to address a “high public interest” in the case, and that further information would be released as the monitoring and investigation proceeded.
According to recent reports, Peter Fischer, the German Ambassador to Georgia, is renting an apartment from the family of Mamuka Khazaradze.
The ruling Georgian Dream party officials, including the Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament, have publicly criticised the Ambassador for the rental agreement. They have accused him of engaging in “political corruption”, undermining diplomatic neutrality, and showing a lack of impartiality by renting an apartment from an opposition leader.
