Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday said that both Georgia and the United States were confronting a shared adversary - the deep state. Speaking to journalists, Papuashvili emphasised that the experience and revelations of both the Georgian Government and the Trump administration had provided insight into the nature and objectives of this structure.
In his remarks, Papuashvili went on to say that Georgia does not have the same resources as the US to combat this entity.
“The US administration has taken important steps, including exposing the tools used by the deep state - such as USAID, NED, and foreign funding mechanisms - which have been used to finance revolutions and destabilisation efforts in other countries”, the Speaker said.
“Today, the United States and Georgia share a common adversary - the deep state. Through revelations made by us and the Trump administration, we know its anatomy, its goals, and the tools it uses. That’s why everything now depends on how effectively, first and foremost, the US administration can defeat the deep state. We do not have the kind of power the US administration has”, he continued.
Papuashvili further claimed that the deep state’s overarching goal is informal governance and the subordination of sovereign nations to external agendas, often at odds with their national interests.
“The deep state seeks to impose informal control and subordinate countries to its own agenda, which contradicts national interests”, he concluded.
