Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday hailed the State Security Service as a cornerstone of Georgia’s success in maintaining peace and stability, crediting its members for their exceptional contributions amid global challenges.
Speaking at an event marking the 10th anniversary of the Service’s establishment, Kobakhidze praised the agency’s professionalism and tireless efforts in thwarting numerous attempts by internal and external forces to destabilise the country politically and overthrow the Government violently.
“In today’s world, where peace and stability have become the greatest challenges, Georgia is the best example of success, to which you, every representative of the State Security Service, have made a special contribution. It is precisely your professionalism and tireless work that have enabled the state to successfully thwart numerous scenarios planned by internal and external forces aimed at political destabilisation and the violent overthrow of the government. Thanks to your efforts, the country has overcome severe crises that posed threats not only to Georgia but also to the stability of the entire region”, the PM said.
The Prime Minister also commended the Service’s anti-corruption efforts.
“On the backdrop of the complex situation in the Black Sea region, our country continues to face many challenges. One of the primary sources of threats remains the temporary occupation of Georgia’s regions. Your efforts ensure the maintenance of a stable environment along the occupation line. Your contribution is particularly significant in both securing the release of illegally detained individuals and protecting the rights of our citizens living in the occupied territories. Mr. Anri, I would like to emphasise your personal efforts and those of your agency in the fight against corruption. Corruption is the greatest threat to the state - it hinders the effective functioning of public institutions, undermines citizens’ trust in state institutions, and obstructs the country’s development, which we cannot accept”, he told Anri Okhanashvili, the Head of the State Security Service.
He further reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms, with the State Security Service playing a pivotal role.
“Our priority is to strengthen effective anti-corruption mechanisms, in which your service plays a key role. I want to reaffirm the Government’s full support in this direction”, he concluded.
