David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Saturday expressed optimism about the future of Georgia-US relations following the presentation of credentials by Georgia’s Ambassador Tamar Taliashvili to US President Donald Trump.
In his remarks, Matikashvili highlighted the significance of the event as a step toward rebooting bilateral ties.
“What the public witnessed gives us hope that another constructive step has been taken to reboot Georgia-US relations, starting from a new milestone and being mutually beneficial for both nations,” Matikashvili said.
The official noted the efficiency with which technical arrangements for the credentials presentation were handled, with the meeting attended by the US Secretary of State.
“You know how quickly all the technical issues related to the presentation of credentials were resolved. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State. Discussions took place regarding the future of Georgia-US relations”, he noted.
Matikashvili anticipated criticism from opposition groups, stating, “now the radicals and the entire opposition will likely start making noise and, I’m sure, begin justifying themselves”.
Tamar Taliashvili, the newly appointed Georgian Ambassador to the United States, presented her credentials to US President Donald Trump at the White House. During their meeting, President Trump extended his best wishes to Ambassador Taliashvili in her future endeavours.
