Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Friday emphasised the global importance of countering the influence of the deep state, which he claimed seeks to oppress governments and nations that resist its control.
In his remarks, Gorduladze argued that halting the MEGOBARI Act in the US Senate would signal the Trump administration’s commitment to combating this shadowy force.
“If sensible people reflect, including the Trump administration, and decide that this hostile Act prepared by the deep state against a partner country - an Act that directly implies interference in our country’s internal affairs and is filled with direct instructions, blackmail, and threats - if this is stopped entirely, it will be very positive and will clearly underscore that the Trump administration continues its fight against the deep state. It is important to defeat the deep state not only for us but for the world in general, where the deep state has significant influence and attempts to directly oppress governments and nations that do not dance to their tune”, Gorduladze said.
The passage of the Act has reportedly been halted due to the opposition of three Republican senators, one of whom is a close friend and trusted confidant of the US President.
The Act proposes sanctions and visa restrictions for high-ranking Georgian officials. Its full title is Mobilizing and Enhancing Georgia's Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act. It is also officially known as the Countering Chinese Communist Party, Iranian Regime, and Russian Federation Malign Influence in Georgia Act. The bill was authored by Congressman Joe Wilson.
