Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of the ruling party, on Wednesday claimed the interest in opening a "second front" in Georgia has not waned, especially given the ongoing tragedy in Ukraine with no end in sight.
Machavariani’s remarks came after the European Commission had sent a letter to Georgia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili, outlining eight recommendations the country must fulfil to avoid jeopardizing its visa-free travel with the EU. One of the main recommendations is the repeal of the laws on transparency of foreign influence and on the protection of family values and minors.
In his remarks, Machavariani noted that it was relevant for the Global War Party to replace the Georgian Dream party with radical opposition forces.
“Interest in what's called a ‘second front’ against our country hasn't disappeared because, unfortunately, there's no sign yet of the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine coming to an end. Therefore, it's naturally relevant for the Global War Party, or the agents of the deep state, to replace the Georgian Dream with radical opposition forces”, Machavariani said.
