Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Monday asserted the reality of the deep state, citing recent statements by Tulsi Gabbard, the US Director of National Intelligence.
Gorduladze's remarks come as he weighed in on Gabbard's claims that crimes against Donald Trump were orchestrated by the deep state.
In his remarks, he criticised the collective United National Movement for mocking the concept of the deep state.
“When the Director of National Intelligence speaks about the deep state, we can consider it as a once again confirmed fact that the deep state is absolutely real. Now, what will those who are controlled by this very deep state, representatives of the agent network, say to deceive the public? Will they say that the head of the US National Intelligence is lying?” Gorduladze said.
The MP further emphasised Georgia’s unique position in confronting such influence.
“What a small but very proud nation, the Georgian people, can do is to always speak the truth and always provide information to the public about what is happening in our country, what is happening around our country, especially in the region where there are special interests. We must counter this disinformation campaign with nothing but the truth”, he continued.
Gorduladze specifically highlighted concerns about external interference during election campaigns. He claimed that as elections approached, “the temperature of boiling” was raised by individuals controlled by the deep state, leading to increased activity from high-ranking officials with foreign names and even the involvement of foreign diplomats in Georgian politics.
He stressed that these actions were driven by the deep state's desire to prevent a truly national Government in Georgia - one that takes its directives solely from the Georgian people. He contrasted this with the period between 2004 and 2012, suggesting that the then-Government “danced to someone else's tune” and executed orders received from outside.
He also addressed accusations of “pro-Russian” sentiment, stating that such labels were a common tactic used against leaders who do not align with the deep state’s interests.
