Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday took to social media to amplify claims made by Tulsi Gabbard, the US Director of National Intelligence, alleging that accusations of Russian interference in American elections against Donald Trump were fabricated by the Obama administration.
In a social media message, Kobakhidze noted that Gabbard provided evidence asserting that the campaign to discredit Trump had been orchestrated by the deep state and involved full participation from state bodies.
The Prime Minister stated that President Trump personally thanked Gabbard for exposing the deep state and forwarded her materials to the Department of Justice for further action.
Kobakhidze further elaborated on what he described as a “well-proven signature” of the deep state - labeling opponents in various countries as “pro-Russian”.
He asserted that the deep state leverages media, which he claims is under “almost complete, total control and censorship” in Europe, as its most effective tool for this purpose.
The PM further cited examples of Marine Le Pen in France, whom he said was branded “pro-Russian” at the peak of her popularity without evidence; the Romanian presidential candidate Georgeșcu, whose election victory was annulled over alleged TikTok-based Russian interference; and the banning of opposition forces in Moldova based on similar accusations.
Kobakhidze added that Hungary’s Government had been battling this type of propaganda for years, with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán labeled “pro-Russian” simply for defending national interests and rejecting pseudo-liberal ideology.
The PM claimed that since the Georgian Dream party came to power, Georgia had witnessed a similar campaign involving the deep state, local radical opposition, NGOs, and their foreign patrons - including European bureaucrats.
“The only reason they attempt to brand our Government as “pro-Russian” is because we do not take foreign orders, have removed agents from all branches of power, protect our sovereignty, banned LGBT propaganda, and refused to join the war [in Ukraine]”, Kobakhidze said, adding that no actual evidence has ever been presented.
He further argued that Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, remained a primary target of what he described as the deep state propaganda, although no proof of Russian ties had ever been made public.
“We’re dealing with Goebbels-style propaganda - first creating a villain and then accusing opponents of being connected to it. This requires no evidence, only total repetition of the message by as many agents as possible”, the PM continued.
Kobakhidze concluded his post by thanking Gabbard for exposing the deep state. He emphasised the importance of the public having full information about the methods used by “informal oligarchic governance” to discredit political opponents, stating that an “informed society is the primary guarantee of state strength”.
