Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday lauded Georgia's State Security Service, asserting that the country stands as an “island of security” in a rapidly shifting and volatile regional environment.
Papuashvili’s remarks came after the Georgian State Security Service on Thursday thwarted a major transnational crime, preventing the potential development of illicit activities involving nuclear materials.
In his remarks over the matter, the Speaker highlighted the unpredictable nature of regional alliances and conflicts.
“The security environment around us changes daily. The day before yesterday, someone in the region was declared an enemy, yesterday a friend, and today they are bombing again”, he said.
Papuashvili underscored the effectiveness of Georgia's security apparatus as a whole, emphasising its crucial role in maintaining stability.
“The security environment around us is changing every day, and Georgia is an island of security, despite the attacks that, unfortunately, are carried out by groups funded by Brussels, primarily on our security system”, he concluded.
