Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of the ruling party, on Wednesday said Georgia refused to be used as a satellite state in a proxy war, and as a result, the attitudes of Eurocrats changed.
Machavariani’s comments came after the European Commission on Wednesday sent a letter to Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, listing the eight recommendations the country must fulfill in order to avoid jeopardizing visa-free travel.
“Georgia refused to be used as a satellite state in a proxy war, and as a result, the attitudes of Eurocrats changed. Since then, they have been constantly seeking to punish and blackmail us. A torrent of disinformation and baseless accusations is being directed at us, and this blackmail continues”, Machavariani said.
One of the main recommendations is to repeal the laws on transparency of foreign influence and protection of family values and minors.
Brussels is also urging Tbilisi to amend the national human rights strategy and action plan to ensure full protection of the rights of the LGBTIQ community.
