Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, on Wednesday responded to the outcome of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, where ministers failed to reach an agreement on imposing restrictions on Georgia, noting that the result was a win for truth and a reflection of what the Georgian public often sees - “threats followed by failure to act”.
In his remarks, Ionatamishvili highlighted the fact that “certain Eurocrats were not only born in the Soviet Union - they remained there”.
“They act not according to European values, but with outright Soviet methods. This is unacceptable and harms the very idea the European Union was founded on - the idea of peace and prosperity. No one has the right to use issues like this to blackmail the Georgian people”, he added.
“It is good that the ministers couldn’t reach an agreement. As our society often sees, threats are made, but in the end, truth prevails”, Ionatamishvili concluded.
