Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, views the recent statement by Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, regarding the potential suspension of visa-free travel for Georgia and the recommendation to sanction two more judges, as part of an ongoing “blackmail” campaign against the country.
In his remarks, Kaladze stressed that when it came to the country’s national interests, the compromise was not an option.
“So many lies and falsehoods - it’s unimaginable. This is part of the blackmail we’ve been witnessing in recent years, especially since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war”, the official said.
“Georgia did not yield to their demands - we didn’t join the [Russian] sanctions, we didn’t allow a second front to be opened in the country, and they were defeated in the parliamentary elections last October. That’s why they now resort to the unimaginable, and we hear it in the form of such statements”, Kaladze concluded.
