Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday sharply criticised the British Ambassador's recent statements, calling them “shameful” and accusing the diplomat of spreading “blatant lies”.
Kirtskhalia’s comments came in response to the Ambassador's statement regarding the journalist Mzia Amaglobeli, jailed for attacking a police officer, which the Ambassador suggested was politically motivated due to her criticism of the Government.
In his remarks, Kurtskhalia asserted that the Ambassador's remarks were devoid of any objectivity and truth, directly undermining democratic principles.
“When a representative of the diplomatic corps disseminates information saturated with complete and blatant lies, it is shameful to then speak to us about democracy. It is shameful to speak to us about the principles of democracy because each of these statements, which are devoid of any objectivity and truth, is the first grave-digger for democracy. Truth and objectivity are one of the main foundations of democracy”, he concluded.
