Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday expressed deep regret over a letter he described as “disinformation-laden”, signed by the foreign ministers of 17 European states and the High Representative of the European Union.
The letter called on the Georgian authorities to immediately release “unjustly detained” politicians, journalists and activists, repeal “repressive” legislation and engage in a national dialogue with all relevant parties.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that informal governance was prevalent within European bodies, leading to a complete erosion of moral boundaries.
“Unfortunately, this letter is saturated with disinformation. Regarding the arrests of politicians, the assessments we read in the letter are absolutely detached from reality. The same applies to the imprisonment of aggressors. Here, too, the relevant passage of the letter is absolutely filled with disinformation, which is very regrettable”, the Prime Minister said.
He emphasised his disappointment, noting that “we are talking about the foreign ministers of 17 states, we are talking about the High Representative of the European Union, and when such a disinformation-laden letter is published with the signatures of such individuals, it is very regrettable”.
“Informal governance is strong in European structures, in European bureaucracy, and at such a time, all moral boundaries are completely erased. Any lie can be written into a letter even of such a high level, which is very regrettable and unfortunate”, he concluded.
