Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday expressed strong disapproval of comments made by the British Ambassador to the country, stating that it was “very regrettable and very sad when a specific European official advocates violence”.
Kobakhidze’s comment followed the statement by Gareth Ward, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to the country, expressing his concern about the deterioration of media freedom in Georgia.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze described Ward’s statement as “saturated with disinformation”.
“When a specific European official advocates violence, this is very regrettable and very sad”, the Prime Minister stated.
He went on to suggest that the United Kingdom had its own issues to address regarding media pluralism and freedom.
“There are serious problems in Great Britain concerning media pluralism, media freedom, and the influence of the deep state on the media. Therefore, it would be better for British officials to take care of the problems existing in Great Britain”, he concluded.
