Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday publicly accused the European Union of providing €900,000 in funding to the domestic NGO Sapari, an organisation he claims does not recognise democratic institutions or legislation, engages in hate campaigns, and openly aims to violate citizens' electoral rights by sabotaging elections.
In a social media message, Papuashvili noted that “that's all we need to know about the connection between Brussels and extremism”,
“The organisation Sapari, which does not recognise democratic institutions, ignores legislation, conducts hate campaigns, organises protests calling for the overthrow of the elected Government, and whose declared goal is to violate citizens’ voting rights through election sabotage, is paid €900,000 by the European Union”, the Speaker noted.
