Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday said every resolution passed by the European Parliament in recent months was designed to put Georgia's “desperate opposition, which has no pulse, on artificial respiration”.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Samkharadze noted that domestic opposition was on artificial life support, just to preserve some faint sign of life until the upcoming local self-government elections.
"Each resolution adopted by the European Parliament in recent months is aimed at somehow putting our desperate opposition - which no longer even has a pulse - on artificial life support, just to preserve some faint sign of life until the elections. This is the sole purpose of these resolutions”, Samkharadze said.
“[Before the elections] we will hear similar statements from people like [MEP] Rasa [Juknevičienė], claiming that the pre-election environment was uncompetitive because certain opposition groupings did not participate, because the legislation adopted by Georgia is draconian, horrible, and tramples on human rights, etc. People with this kind of Soviet mentality will continue to spread many lies, but what’s important here is that our society clearly sees who is who, whose game each side is playing, and what they are willing to do”, he noted.
