Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday accused Brussels of its first attempt to interfere in Georgia's electoral cycle, aiming to disrupt the upcoming local self-government elections scheduled in 12 weeks.
In a social media message, Papuashvili highlighted yesterday's European Parliament resolution, which he claims encourages the radical opposition to boycott the local elections.
He noted that the resolution was adopted with the participation of Commissioner Marta Kos, who, according to Papuashvili, complimented the resolution's author, MEP Rasa Juknevičienė.
“Let's mark the European Commissioner's position on the European Parliament's resolution as Brussels' first interference in Georgia's elections in this electoral cycle, this time with the aim of disrupting them, which is tantamount to an attempt to deprive Georgian citizens of their electoral rights”, the Speaker said.
