Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, on Wednesday criticised recent resolutions adopted by European institutions, claiming they contradict both Georgia’s progress and core European values.
In his remarks, Ionatamishvili emphasised that Georgia was a leading country globally in several key areas, including economic development, politics, rule of law, and democratic governance.
“Georgia is a leading country on the global stage, including in terms of economic development, politics, the rule of law, democracy index, and so forth. On the one hand, there are objective assessments based on very strict and specific criteria, through which Georgia becomes a leader. On the other hand, we see resolutions from Eurobureaucrats that betray and fight against not only Georgia but also European values themselves”, Ionatamishvili said.
The European Parliament on Wednesday adopted the resolution on Georgia. The resolution calls for the immediate release of Mikheil Saakashvili, the holding of new parliamentary elections, and the recognition of Salome Zourabichvili's legitimacy as President.
